On 4/20 last year, Grammy-nominated rapper, Wiz Khalifa, and game developer, Metamoki, announced the launch of Wiz Khalifa’s Weed Farm (check out the official trailer for the game by clicking here). In the past year, the game has grown fast, recently ranking in the Top 100 for Simulation Games on iOS and Android. In the game, the player is mentored by Wiz Khalifa to plant, grow, and harvest the finest herb in a fun and interactive idle simulation gameplay.
The game has been highly successful to-date and is nearing 2 million in monthly active users (MAUs), according to app analytics company, Apptopia. When thinking about capitalizing on its user growth through monetization, Metamoki wanted to be sure they integrated partners in a way where promotional messages did not interrupt the user flow of the game. The game developer decided to partner with AppOnboard to integrate a Rewarded Demo zone, an opt-in integration where users can try new games and play demos to earn virtual currency in the app.
Integrating Rewarded Demos on the Main Screen
“While researching competitive games in the same idle games genre, we saw a new ad unit in another game powered by AppOnboard’s Rewarded Demos as a separate button on the Main UI,” said Eiso Kawamoto Jr., Head of Product at Metamoki. “We decided to give it a try backed by positive word of mouth after speaking to other developers who were happy with the dedicated zone’s performance.”
A main screen integration has been the most visible and top performing integration location to-date in AppOnboard’s experience.
“It really is the best place to introduce a new rewarded zone to your users to ensure they know about it,” said Nate Dykstra, Senior Director of Business Development and Developer Growth at AppOnboard. “We also recommend that developers add a middle overlay screen that gives the user a heads up that they will be playing an interactive experience.”
The test went extremely well and Metamoki decided and to this day continues to monetize with AppOnboard’s Rewarded Demo zones on both iOS and Android versions of Wiz Khalifa’s Weed Farm.
In fact, the zone has generated nearly 4 million demo plays to-date.
