Each edition of ‘Try Now’ Tuesday highlights a new App Store Demo built for a top developer. Catch up on the rest here.

Background:

Last September, we highlighted indie developer (Superheart Studios) on Try Now Tuesday for driving over 10,000 daily pre-registrations on Google Play upon launch. The studio was one of the first to leverage the Google Play Instant program and AppOnboard’s App Store Demos to measure user interest for a game (Ocean Reef Life) before actually building the full version.

Said Paulo Brandao, founder of Superheart Studios, last September:

“The iOS App Store and Google Play are very different ecosystems. AppOnboard’s App Store Demos is a perfect solution for us as we are able to enable a ‘Try Now’ button on our Google Play page and measure user engagement and pre-registration data that will help us decide if making an Android version will be worthwhile for us.”

Since launching its instant app, Superheart Studios has continued to see an influx of pre-registrations for Ocean Reef Life up until its recent launch (Google Developers Console screenshot below). The top pre-registering countries were Brazil (15% of total pre-registrations), Indonesia (14%), India (12%), Russia (9%), and the United States (8%).

Superheart Studios believes there are several key reasons why developers should enable the Try Now button and pre-registration prior to the full app launch:

  1. Drive early interest in the app or game
  2. Maximize exposure from Google (apps/games with the Try Now button enabled are featured by Google)
  3. See which countries are driving the most demo starts (discover geos & regions to focus efforts on)
  4. Gather user feedback from heat maps to make tangible changes to enhance onboarding experiences and gameplay
  5. Generate immediate Day 1 install volume post-launch with little to no user acquisition spend

Based on this positive market feedback its instant app was driving, Superheart Studios greenlit production of the full Android version of Ocean Reef Life and have officially released it on Google Play.

“We are very excited about the full launch of Ocean Reef Life on Android,” said Brandao. “We also decided to keep the ‘Try Now’ button live post-launch so new, interested users can check out several ocean creatures and experience the gameplay before installing. We believe this will lead to higher quality users in the long-run.”

Presently, the Ocean Reef Life instant app is still driving nearly a 60% call-to-action engagement rate (nearly 6 in 10 users are tapping to install during the Try Now experience).
