Each edition of ‘Try Now’ Tuesday highlights a new App Store Demo built for a top developer. In case you missed it, we officially rolled out App Store Demos on 8/30. Check out the full press release!
Background:
Earlier this year, it was reported that mobile interactive story games generated $14 million in a month alone. Most recently, story-based games have been highly successful in maintaining player engagement and retention for long periods of time. Wooga, a mobile-first game developer headquartered in Berlin, has been one of the leaders in the space with its two main story-driven hidden object games, Pearl’s Peril and June’s Journey.
When considering ways to get new potential gamers engrossed in these storylines, Wooga recognized the Google Play Instant program as a new, innovative, interesting way to explore and contacted AppOnboard to help get to market faster with a Google Play Instant app.
“AppOnboard got June’s Journey Instant App up and running very quickly. It is a great way for new players to test drive the game,” said Tim Shepherd, Creative Director, Playable Ads at Wooga. “We are really excited about the potential uplift in the Play Store.”
“One of our other main goals was to get the user straight into gameplay,” said Erik Werlin, also a Creative Engineer at AppOnboard who helped with the demo. “Especially on mobile, we know how important it is to get players immersed in the experience from the get-go.”

What We Love About the Unit:
- Fun and easy tutorial-based experience that teaches players gameplay basics
- Demo ends with promotional video with striking visuals and callouts of game benefits (e.g. Thrilling Stories, Meet Unique Characters)
“I am a thrillseeker at heart,” said Juan Martinez, Creative Engineer at AppOnboard. “When making the demo, I tried to include scenes, visuals, and callouts in the ending promotional video sequence that highlighted the game’s thrilling storyline.”
